From IndieBound: Nicole Barnett single-handedly owns and operates Rubber Rose Books & Print in Kankakee, Illinois. With the motto “Affordability, Inclusivity, and Accessibility,” Barnett works to make sure Kankakee’s only indie bookstore is a safe and supportive space for everyone in her community. This year, Barnett is celebrating her fourth year of Rubber Rose ownership, so she sat down with us to share more about her motivations, her community, and her store.

Celebrate Extraordinary Indie Local Businesses! People often overlook the positive impacts of independent, locally owned (Indie Local) businesses. The local community that an Indie Local serves may understand these impacts, but those located further away may need to be made aware of these success stories. In future posts, with your help, we will feature a few of the top Indie Locals in the nation.
You can nominate your favorite Indie Local by emailing us today.
