We celebrate this month’s Local Legend, Jamee Haley.
Nominated by Lauren Gellatly, Institute for Local Self-Reliance: Jamee is the co-founder and former Executive Director of Lowcountry Local First, a nonprofit based in Charleston, SC that advances economic prosperity and local ownership through innovative and inclusive initiatives that build our community’s wealth and wellbeing.
From Neighborly Park Circle (SC): Meet the heart behind Neighborly. Neighborly was created by Jamee Haley, a local interior designer and the founder of Hue Interiors. With a background in design and a deep love for community, Jamee dreamed of a place where beautiful things and good people meet. Every corner of the shop reflects her belief that a well-made space — and a well-given gift — can make someone feel truly at home.
“My favorite quote by Buckminster Fuller is, ‘You never change things by fighting against the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the old model obsolete.’” ~ Jamee Haley

As AMIBA celebrates its twenty-fifth year, we added a new section to our newsletter celebrating the entrepreneurs who created legacy businesses. These long-standing enterprises strengthened their own communities while feeding the entire local economy movement.
