We celebrate this month’s Local Legend, Helena Norberg-Hodge. She’s the founder and director of Local Futures, a nonprofit dedicated to renewing ecological and social well-being by strengthening communities and local economies. Helena is also a linguist, author, and filmmaker.
Her books include Local is Our Future: Steps to an Economics of Happiness, Bringing the Food Economy Home, and From the Ground Up: Rethinking Industrial Agriculture.
“Whenever I get sucked too far down the political rabbit hole of the moment, I try to schedule a chat with my dear friend Helena Norberg-Hodge,” wrote Michael Shuman. “No one has done more to build a global movement for localization.”

As AMIBA celebrates its twenty-fifth year, we added a new section to our newsletter celebrating the entrepreneurs who created legacy businesses. These long-standing enterprises strengthened their own communities while feeding the entire local economy movement.
