This month we honor Wendell Berry, writer and farmer of Port Royal, who passed away on August 31. Vicki Pozzebon resurfaced this piece, which she wrote in 2013, to honor his legacy in the Localism movement.
From Vicki Pozzebon, Prospera Partners (NM): On a recent Monday morning over coffee with a local artisan/entrepreneur, the subject of the poet Wendell Berry came up. I credit Berry as the guru of the local economy movement, a man whose poems and essays are not only useful for direct quotes on farming, community, and economies in grant applications, but also as meditations to start my day. Berry’s comments on the local economy movement, place-based economies, and the love of community are the fuel in my gas tank.
“The earth is what we all have in common.”

As AMIBA celebrates its twenty-fifth year, we have added a new section to our newsletter celebrating the entrepreneurs who created legacy businesses. These long-standing enterprises strengthened their own communities while feeding the entire local economy movement.
