Colorado Summit on Community Economic and Environmental Vitality

With in-depth training on developing Buy Local campaigns and Independent Business Alliances

Tuesday, May 27, 10 AM - 4:30 PM
Frisco, Colorado
Hoosier room, Summit County Community Center, 151 Peak One Blvd.
970-668-2940

Introduction
Tthis gathering will accelerate the Localization Movement and help connect communities in the Southern Rockies that have launched or are exploring campaigns to help local businesses thrive. A primary focus will be showing participants all the basics needed to effectively execute a "Buy Local" campaign or launch an Independent Business Alliance*.

Taking advantage of the presence of Jeff Milchen and Jennifer Rockne in the Colorado in May (the founders of the Boulder Independent Business Alliance and American Independent Business Alliance), Summit County organizers are hosting this event to tap the experience of AMIBA's staff in working with communities around the country and to share each others’ skills and experience. You also will enjoy the expertise of Michael Kinsley (pdf bio.) of the Rocky Mountain Institute. Michael has helped dozens of U.S. communities improve economic vitality while conserving natural resources and open space. He is the senior consultant for the Rocky Mountain Institute’s Sustainable Communities program.

Purpose
This gathering is for people concerned with supporting local, independent businesses in their communities. Independent Business Alliances and many other groups working on local efforts and those serious about starting to organize such efforts will share ideas, resources, and explore opportunities for collaboration at the regional and state levels.

Specific workshop topics will likely include:

We also will explore opportunities to share resources and skills across our groups and ways to begin forming a collective voice at the state and regional levels to influence media coverage, political debate and public awareness.
