Bay area independent businesses serve up specials, recognition

The Tampa Independent Business Alliance is inviting the Bay area business community to help celebrate "Independents Week," July 1-7 as declared by the American Independent Business Alliance.

According to a release, in-store promotions are being offered at number of member businesses starting Friday.

"TIBA is joining other local alliances and partner organizations nationwide -- thousands of independent business owners and community members who are participating in Independents Week -- to celebrate our great independent businesses that exemplify the uniqueness of Tampa ," said Gordon Davis, TIBA member and owner of St. Bart's Island House restaurant, in a release.

Independents Week activities include specials at member businesses ranging from Sherri's Yesterdaze in Seminole Heights and Tanner Paint in Central Tampa to Serendipity Accents and Gifts on Davis Islands and A Source for the Home in Old Hyde Park Village.

The president of the TIBA chapter is Carla Jimenez of Inkwood Books. Maryann Ferenc, of the restaurant Mise en Place, is president-elect.
